COVID-19 practices
COVID-19 practices for the 2020 - 2021 season
To keep curling going during COVID-19, Curling Canada, along with Curling Alberta, has developed return-to-play guidelines that will maintain the basic concept of the game while introducing safe distancing and improved hygiene practices. For the 2020-2021 season, the BVCC (Indus Curling Club) will be implementing the following practices set forth by Curling Canada and Curling Alberta:
- Only one sweeper for the throwing team
- Skips NEVER sweep (neither their rocks or the opponent rocks behind the T line)
- Players have designated locations where they stand or move to
- No changing of rocks during the game or touching handles of rocks other than your own
- No handshakes
- No scorekeeping, use phone instead
- No exchanging of coin for flipping. Phone App or Stopwatch Even/Odd is preferred
- No holding of other player equipment (brooms, stabilizers)
- Sanitation of rocks before the game
- Sanitation of measuring sticks when used
- 2m distancing of all players at all times
In addition, the BVCC (Indus Curling Club) will be making the following changes to help ensure the safety of all players:
On the ice:
- There will be no water dispensers (bring your own water)
- There will be no club equipment provided (stabilizers, brooms, sticks, sliders), please bring your own and do not share with others
- Neighbouring sheets will start at alternate ends (ie. sheets 1 & 3 will begin at the near end and sheet’s 2 & 4 will start at the far end)
- There will be no on-sheet benches
- Measurements will be done by only 1 person
- Sanitizer stations will be available at both ends of each sheet
In the lounge:
- Our bar, kitchen and lounge area will be open as per AHS guidelines
- Some tables and chairs will be removed to allow for proper social distancing
- Locker room will be closed and not accessible for use
- Proper social distancing signage and markings will be displayed
